Recap
The crew settles in and over the next five days begins planning their operation to arrest Major Townsend. Naomi is able to secure them a suitcase (chest) of cash for the operation, alongside some snacks as requested. Their plan takes the shape of having Pete swap for Townsend’s driver using his illusory gem while Townsend is in the party. Gus would take the form of a spider and hide in the vehicle as well with plans to dose him with a military grade sedative the crew acquired from Naomi. As a back up each member of the Crew other than Pete would have them, Pete’s would stay in Gus’ hands as a just in case.
Meanwhile Purrcival would get inside and keep an eye on Townsend to inform the group of any happenings. He chooses to do this, by getting the guest list from Naomi, digging up some dirt on some of them and then using that as leverage with a notoriously in debt gambler who is running for City Treasurer by the name of Everett Peppin. It almost goes poorly, but Purrcival is able to convince him it’s worth just letting him tag along so he can tell his client nothing is going on.
The rest of the crew plans to be outside running as support and interference as needed.
When they arrive, Purrcival tags along as Everett’s plus one, getting inside and watching events unfold from within. Paul takes a place near the paparazzi watching the door. Rhys needs some help climbing a fire escape on a side street overlooking the parking lot in the rear and part of the building, and Gus, Pete, and Velvet keep an eye out from the street corner nearby.
Paul saw Townsend arrive with two escorts alongside his jeep. His jeep only seemed to contain a driver, but the other two had a few personnel in it. He used a speaking stone Gus had provided him to let the rest of the crew waiting on the corner know, while retreating from the paparazzi himself. Rhys kept an overwatch from above, while Velvet, Gus, and Pete all moved towards the parking lot to keep an eye on the vehicles.
The soldiers exited their vehicles and while waiting started playing a round of cards on a crate they pulled out of one of the jeeps. Eventually, the driver of Townsend’s jeep broke off to take a leak, heading for a nearby alley. Velvet saw her opportunity and snuck up to him, stunning him by bashing him against the alleyway wall and then injecting him with the dose of sedative she was carrying. He quickly succumbed and passed out.
Pete looked him over, storing his likeness in the gem and then using it to project an illusion. Looking at the man's wallet, he appeared to be Sergeant Clint Weststone. Pete had Gus transform and nestle up his sleeve and then proceeded to head toward the jeep.
On the way he was called over to the card game to finish another few hands. Seeing no other option, he complied and took the group of soldiers for as much money as he could manage before retiring to the jeep and letting them continue to play.
Meanwhile, inside Purrcival kept a loose eye on Townsend, but eventually noticed him arguing with a politician about something in the middle of a speech by the host Ira Lyons. Purrcival decided to intervene just in case this led to a lost opportunity. He was able to cool the two enough for Townsend to break off and head for the rest room and the politician to go find another table.
Purrcival decided to seize an opportunity and headed for the rest room. After making sure no one else was there, he tried to sell Townsend on the idea that the politician he’d been arguing with was someone Purrcival had been watching all night and he had noticed him slip a poison into Townsend’s drink and offered him the “antidote”, which happened to be the very sedative the crew had purchased for the operation.
Townsend, unfortunately, didn’t buy it and warned Purrcival off. Telling him that because he stopped Townsend from causing a scene he’d let whatever this was slide. He then turned to leave, but Purrcival didn’t want to let the opportunity slip by and used his vines to grab and restrain Townsend, rushing him with the syringe before he could shout or act. Townsend wasn’t able to get out of the way, or resist the sedatives power and quickly passed out, but as he did another patron entered the restroom and upon seeing the sight of a many bound in vines and unconscious with another stepping back from him with a syringe did the only rationale thing one might do in such a situation and screamed.
Will Purrcival be able to find a way through this that still keeps the unconscious Townsend in his custody? How will the Crew outside react to hearing a scream from the bathroom in the club near the parking lot? What other complications await our Crew? And will anyone let Purrcival live this down if they all make it out alive and free?
