Description
The Priesthood of Mercury holds quite a bit of power within Moonfall City. This is owed less to their religious purpose and more to the fact that most are shrewd business people. The Exchange itself is testament to this, serving trade, travel, and worship in equal measure. To many within the priesthood, trade is worship, and coin is prayer.
Because of this some of the wealthiest people in Moonfall City either are part of the church of Mercury, owe them debts, or at least have economic dealings with them. It is unknown to all but these priests exactly how much money flows through The Exchange and how much they own.
They are, however, not entirely heartless when it comes to matters of coin. Donations, aid funds, and charity can still be transactions, paving the way for future transactions, receiving soft power, or favors and the like for such efforts.
Their hierarchy is mostly dependent upon wealth, but includes a reckoning with social standing as well. Being the richest person in the room only goes so far if no one is willing to do further trades with you.
