Recap
The group gathered in the main brewing and storage room for the speakeasy half of the Celestial Sips alongside Barnabas Moon, Jimmie Wood, and Lola Walker. Lola had come in that morning to brew up some Moonshine and discovered something terrible had transpired… Something had broken in from the sewer drain in the room and ransacked things. All the Moon Dust and Moonshine was gone except for a couple of bags of scattered Dust and broken bottles. There were obvious claw marks everywhere. And much of the processing equipment had been damaged. Barnabas was frustrated while Jimmie seemed to be trying to think.
As the group took things in, Velvet set to using her sixth sense gained from the experiments done on her. Keeping it somewhat hidden from the group, she played off the visions of the theft she had as if it were observations and investigation. Ultimately, what she saw was not a beast breaking into the Sips, but a group of garishly dressed thugs in black with obnoxiously polished gold accents. This identified them as a low-level crime family known to some of the group, The Pyrite Gang. They had broken in, stolen the Dust and Shine and used a severed claw from some creature to leave the marks and destroy things. They then fled the way they’d come.
Revealing this to the group Barnabas’ mood lightened and Jimmie was excited. If it was thieves there was a chance of recovering the lost goods! Jimmie offered to pay the crew a bonus if they were willing to make the attempt and they quickly agreed. Barnabas left things in everyone’s hands for a business meeting. With things mostly settled Lola shooed the crew down into the sewers so she and the other workers could set to repairing and cleaning up the room as much as they could.
The group descended into the sewers after some preparations and moved through them with relative ease for a short distance. As each thought a bit about the last time they were down here smuggling something into the Sips.
They eventually came to their first major crossroads, but a bioluminescent red vine had sprouted from a part of the wall and spread to many walls and the ceiling of the area. It wasn’t petrified in any part indicating it was not a Lunatic plant, but it was strange. Gus attempted to communicate with it, but all he got out of it was that it was hungry. At the same time Velvet poked a section of it with a stick, which it latched on to and Velvet hastily released.
The group took a moment to discuss this and Pete decided it was best to simply burn it out. He stepped forward and put a torch to the vines, burning a section away, but causing the vines to violently react, peeling themselves from the walls and taking on roughly humanoid shapes to attack the group.
In the initial chaos Purrcival took a moment to whistle to his vulture who was following the group from the streets above, the vulture sniffed out and indicated the direction the Pyrite thugs went by tapping on a grate. During the first exchanged blows with the blood red plants the group proposed trying to simply push past the plants and move down that path, but circumstances and the reality that they’d have to solve the problem eventually anyway led to them focusing on battling the plants.
A few of the group took a few wounds, but nothing too serious as they slowly destroyed the humanoid manifestations of the plant in the tight corridors. The battle came to a close with a devastating tag team by Purrcival and Velvet, relying on their time hunting together as Velvet crouched to lunge forward, Purrcival fired a snap shot over her head and the force of the bullet and Velvet’s claws destroyed the tallest of the plant-things, the rest falling silent and motionless and beginning to wither. Velvet and Gus each collected a sample as the group gathered themselves.
They decided it best to press on now and try to catch up to the thieves, rather than rest, and so they did.
