Recap

As the crew dispersed for the day prior, Pete was slow to leave the Celestial Sips and ran into Barnabas on his way in. The two had a conversation about what Barnabas had been up to, but ultimately Barnabas pushed off the full recounting for later when everyone could hear it. Instead he explained that part of what he had been doing was meeting with Frances Finley. And she had revealed a bit more than perhaps she intended about the fact that the Finley family was moving into the Moon Dust trade and some details on a few of their operations. Barnabas wanted Pete’s professional sense on the matter to see what he could learn about the deals and see if everything Frances was saying was true.

Pete agreed and swiftly headed out to scope out the deals. He was able to put eyes on each deal. The first was out of the back of a trunk at a Finley owned market. There he saw them marking each item sold with magical tracking runes. He then moved on to a silent art auction acting as a front for selling ALOT of Dust. He wasn’t able to learn too much, but he nailed down that the amount of Dust they were moving didn’t match what Finley was claiming. Unfortunately, he was delayed while schmoozing with guests and got to the next location while the deal was being completed. It was at an office for Shirley Knight’s mayoral efforts and she was there and the one taking the dust in crates labelled for office supplies. Without time to get closer he started causing a ruckus and was able to at least read the lips of the delivery person and Knight and take away “Eye” “Dangerous” and “Find it”.

Unfortunately, the ruckus he caused got him thrown in the drunk tank until morning when he “sobered up”. He met the crew, Barnabas and eventually Jimmie that morning. He told Barnabas what he had learned after everyone brought him up to speed on other things they’d found. And Barnabas shared his big take away from his meeting with Finley in full. She claimed the poaching was an accident and that she was just eager to hire talent as the operation ramped up. By way of apology she offered to buy the Sips from Barnabas and Jimmie. But the details Pete had retrieved along with a warning Pete had provided earlier had Barnabas disinclined to take the deal.

However, the “Eye” related to Shirley Knight perked Gus’ memory and he recalled the pendant Sparky had first stolen, and then died trying to return alongside Gus. He fetched it and showed it to the group Rhys and Pete set to work with their magics, first confirming it was magic, then realizing it was a kind of communication device. The crew surmised this must relate in some way to the names of the individuals at the head of Sable Incorporated and after some discussion decided to attempt to use it with Frances Finley in mind.

What Pete saw was seemingly through the eyes of Frances Finley and was a discussion with a Galapa of middle age with scars on her neck in tactical military garb. The discussion between them was somewhat veiled but had to do with operations and specifically the Sips. Finley wanted things solved quickly and cleanly, but the other party, which turned out to be Renja Zoric, who also had one of the eye pendants, was intrigued by the resistance her forces had met, especially the powerful Velvet. Finley used force and a mechanical arm to remind Renja of the risks, but Renja was nonplussed. Ultimately, she agreed it would be handled, but first she’d be contacting Him. When the meeting ended Pete immediately ended the communication in fear of being detected.

The crew discussed this and briefly debated contacting Townsend, assuming he was Him. But instead simply confirmed that he was part of the network this Eye connected to. With that thought in tow, the crew decided it was time to continue with their other leads for now. Initially Purrcival wanted to return to his village, but the cautioned words of others that the security there would likely be prepared resulted in the Crew deciding to investigate the other location, the warehouse in the Docks district later that night.

Gus wanted to take a rest, but Rhys provided him with some Stamina potions and the crew generally prepared themselves for later that night. Paul took the time to go with Rhys to the library to learn more about the Eye. With an incredible skill they had built working together they were able to quickly learn more about it. It was a magical item that wasn’t incredibly common, but was known from legends and the past. It was made from the eye of a Celesitalchilde, typically of a Far Celestial. It could either be given by the Childe or taken by force. If given the Childe could listen in on the communications, if taken they would simply know that such communications were happening. The process in either case always left marks on the Childe, the eye would regrow, but scarring or discoloration would occur, especially the more often the eye was given or taken.

Later that night the Crew, aside from Velvet, headed out in the dead of night to the warehouse in the Docks District. There they found a building protected by a high chain link fence and some locks, but not much else. Baroness was able to spot a trio of people drinking by the docks by torchlight, but nothing else seemed to be around.

Rhys, eager to pick the lock, forgot until after to check if it was magical, and, unfortunately, much like the Apeeno law offices it was. Realizing this he let them know he may have set off an alarm. The crew swiftly decided the best plan was to leave the lock in place, but climb the fence and eventually also chose to climb the building when some lights came on inside.

From the roof the Crew saw security moving to investigate things, and after relocking the lock and patrolling the area and finding nothing they returned inside and left a group of 3 to keep an eye on the front for a while.

Seeing the opportunity for what it was, the crew swiftly descended from the open skylights on the roof and struck. Unfortunately, the noise drew the attention of the other guards who came to join the skirmish in staggered groups. The Crew mostly had control of the fight though and pushed through subduing and killing guards as they moved closer and closer to the concealed end of the warehouse. Some of the guards seemed to possess powers to manipulate shadows, and they also had more of those trained Lunatic dogs, but ultimately, these advantages meant little against the efforts of the Crew.

Will the crew win out in the fight? What will they find in the concealed area of the warehouse? And will Gus be able to keep the dogs from attacking his friends?
